Two Streets Back Exercise at Jubilee with Emergency Services

28th August 2022

What a great day! This has been a fantastic exercise held at our Jubilee estate for our residents and wider Wyndham community where we welcomed everyone to attend. It was incredibly educational and valuable to undertake these drills to learn what to do in certain emergency situations. Things that we should all be aware of to help and support one another in the wider community. We acknowledge, appreciate and thank all the volunteers and everyone who participated from all the emergency services managing this for their time and effort spent with the Jubilee residents and wider Wyndham community.

Wyndham City in conjunction with Victoria Police, Fire Agencies and other Emergency Services, conducted an emergency management exercise in the Jubilee Estate on Sunday 28th August 2022. Inspector Greg Hinton from Victoria Police invited residents and community members to participate in the exercise, asking the community to leave their premises and walk ‘Two Streets Back” to the community staging point to simulate a peri-urban grassfire in an emergency evacuation.

This exercise provided an opportunity for residents to prepare for emergencies and become familiar with fire agencies and other emergency agencies that work together during an emergency.

A number of agencies, approximately 100 staff, were involved in this exercise lead by Victoria Police. These included –

  • Fire Rescue Victoria
  • Country Fire Authority
  • Parks Victoria
  • State Emergency Services
  • Ambulance Victoria
  • City of Wyndham
  • Jubilee Estate Community Members
  • Salvation Army
  • Australian Red Cross
  • Emergency Management Victoria
  • Victorian Council of Churches Emergencies Ministry

This was a great community event with Wyndham community members participating.

Quote from Alex Reid (CFA Member) who were another emergency service heavily involved in this joint exercise as well during the day:
“Seeing the community apply our Two Streets Back message at Jubilee in Wyndham Vale last Sunday was really helpful for us as we continually try to improve the ways we communicate our life saving messages. It was also really encouraging to see residents engage with emergency services personnel, to ask questions and take action for their own safety.”

The exercise was reported on by Star Weekley, read the full story here.
